There are four divisions in the Northern Heritage Fiddle Contest:
JUNIOR……………………….……Ages 15 and Under
INTERMEDIATE………………….Ages 16-64
SENIOR…………………………….Ages 65+
CHAMPIONSHIP…………………The top three scores overall, regardless of age.
No electrical instruments are allowed in the contest.
Current students and families of this year’s judges are not allowed to compete.
No individuals will be accepted into the contest after the draw for order begins. This year’s draw begins at 2:00 PM. Contest starts at 3:00 PM.
Contestants must play three pieces on a fiddle: (1) hoedown, (2) waltz, and (3) tune of choice, and in that order. Music must be improvised or played from memory. Time limit will be based on the number of contestants.
Each contestant may be accompanied by one acoustic guitar layer. No other accompanying instrument will be allowed.
Contestants will be judged on technique, musicianship and overall presentation.
Contestants are not allowed to speak on stage.
The contestant registration fee ($10 advance/$15 day of contest) includes a morning workshop (10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon), fiddle jam session (12:30 PM to 1:30 PM) the afternoon contest (3:00 PM to 5:00 PM), and presentation of prizes (5:15 PM).
