The 2005 Northern Heritage Fiddle Contest was attended by a record crowd of 262 who came to see 18 contestants vie for $1,500 in cash prizes. Winners in the championship division were Sedra Bistodeau in first place and her sister Denna Bistodeau in second, both from Princeton (MN). They were followed in third place by Kori Malles from Birchwood (MN). The senior division was won by George Meuret and Ruth Meuret in first and second place respectively. They are both from Haugen. In the intermediate division, AJ Srubas of Depere took first, Alyssa Degner of Shell Lake took second, and Royce Sorenson of Chippewa Falls took third. The junior division was won by Aria Stiles of Apple Valley (MN) in first, Catie Jo Pidel of Mounds (MN) in second, and Kelsea Pederson of Cumberland in third.
Come join us in 2006 for another great fiddling exhibition. Two of our judges will be Matt Thompson and Lisa Fuglie of Monroe Crossing, the Midwest's premier bluegrass group that will be performing for the Heritage Headline Concert later the same day.
Anyone can enter the contest. The registration fee for contestants is $10 in advance and $15 the day of the contest. It includes a morning workshop (10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon), fiddle jam session (12:30 PM to 1:30 PM) the afternoon contest (3:00 PM to 5:00 PM), and presentation of prizes (5:15 PM).Click here for the contest rules.
